​​​The elegance of simple geometry – curves, lines, basic shapes, and how they relate to one another – underlie both the design and structure of my forms.   My aesthetic sensibilities also derive from my love of nature, where I feel most at home.  My work explores the interplay between these two influences.

 

I create both slab constructed and wheel thrown forms.  I approach my work as a collaboration with the clay.  The clay often takes me in interesting and unanticipated directions.  The process of give and take, and spontaneity allows my forms to evolve naturally.  Some forms call for further enhancement:  adding texture or applying slip, oxides and/or glazes.  Other forms are left unfinished.  

 

The firing has the final say.  Surprise, discovery and letting go of expectations is at the heart of the process.  Outcomes can range from subtle to striking.  No two forms will be the same.  My aim is to create forms that invite contemplation.
